Berwick Rangers 0 Celtic 2:PACKAGES CONTAINING bullets were posted to Celtic manager Neil Lennon and player Niall McGinn, the Scottish Premier League club said yesterday. The packages were posted in Northern Ireland and intercepted at a Royal Mail sorting office in Co Antrim on Wednesday. "It is now a police matter and the club has no further comment to make," the club said.

Lennon, a Catholic like fellow Northern Irishman McGinn, was the victim of sectarian abuse while playing for his country.

Meanwhile, Berwick Rangers failed to deliver a shock to match their famous victory over Rangers in 1967 as they went out of the Scottish Cup against Celtic yesterday.

Goals either side of the interval from Daniel Majstorovic and Scott Brown saw Celtic safely into the fifth round as Freddie Ljungberg made his debut in place of Emilio Izaguirre. Lukasz Zaluska took over from Fraser Forster in goal, while captain Brown – back from suspension – was on the bench.

Battling Berwick almost caused problems early on when Zaluska had to race out of his box to clear before Darren Gribben could connect with a long ball. Gribben then had the ball in the back of the net after lobbing the Celtic goalkeeper but the offside flag was raised well before the shot even left his boot. The breakthrough came on 17 minutes when Andy McLean failed to deal with a Charlie Mulgrew cross and Majstorovic rifled into the roof of the net.

Berwick had the chance to level when Thomas Rogne conceded a free-kick 25 yards out but Gribben blasted well over. Any hopes of a dramatic comeback were dashed with eight minutes to go when Brown raced on to a Beram Kayal ball before sending an angled drive into the bottom corner.
