Depleted by injuries and Christmas leave, Corinthians had no chance of halting Glenanne's advance to the quarter-finals of the Leinster Senior Cup at Whitechurch Park on Saturday, though it was only in the closing minutes the winning margin was extended to 5-1.

Initially, it took a handsome goal by Myles Warren for the home side to stir Stephen Butler into a three-strike reply, scoring twice himself and, in between, putting John Goulding through to leave it 3-1 at the interval.

With Colm Blennerhassett keeping an attentive guard on Goulding in the second half and Charlie Henderson also foiling the Glenanne attackers with a flurry of saves, it was late in the game before Graham Shaw made the most of a clear opening, to be followed in the last surge by the rare delight of a goal from a left-back, Clinton Murphy.

It helped to whet his team's appetite for the Neville Cup final against Monkstown on St Stephen's Day.

At Serpentine Avenue, Pembroke whizzed about the place to plunder five goals in each half, against St Brendan's, four of them falling to Stephen Stewart and three to Allan Kershaw.

Clontarf also took a pounding from young first-division tigers as Three Rock Rovers won 9-0 at Glasnevin where Garry Ringwood relished his return to action with a hat-trick.

Elsewhere, other second-division sides lost by no more than two-goal margins as Portrane, St James's Gate and Suttonians went under to Avoca, Monkstown and UCD, respectively, leaving Weston (2-1 winners against Eastern Health) as the only "minnows" in the last eight.
