Sheila Connolly (32) and Maura Coe (23) must have felt they were in with a chance of the top prize when shooting 40 points over 18 holes at Borris last week. However Gene Byrne, a 25 handicapper, took top spot with 45 points to blow away the rest of the field, leaving Connolly and Coe to settle for second and third spot respectively.

Holes-in-one were in plentiful supply last week but pride of place must go to Michael Keaveney of Carrickmines. The 19-year-old junior member holed out his tee shot at the par four 310 yards second hole in the RNLI Fourball.

Hazel Grove won the Hackett trophy at Newlands last week. Confined to junior members, Hazel Grove's total of 204 left them two shots clear of Stackstown with the team gross going to Hermitage on 228. The individual nett was won by Brendan Walton (The Island) with a nett 64 off a 15 handicap.

Delgany Golf Club is the venue for a Pro-Am on Thursday next in aid of the Children's Hospital, Crumlin. The event is being staged by the Southern Branch PGA and the entry fee is £300.
