Team News: Dublin manager Paul Caffrey has made six team changes, mostly enforced, for the resumption of the Allianz National Football League.

Round three begins on Saturday evening with Dublin playing Offaly under floodlights at Parnell Park (live on TG4) and Caffrey is without a leading quartet of players, currently suspended for their involvement in the infamous Omagh brawl back in the first round.

Alan Brogan, Ciarán Whelan, Kevin Bonner were suspended for eight weeks, and Bryan Cullen for four weeks, although it has now been confirmed that all four will take their cases to the Central Appeals Committee (CAC).

The suspended Tyrone players - Michael McGee, Owen Mulligan and Kevin Hughes, who all got eight weeks - have confirmed their intentions to do likewise, but the CAC won't be meeting again until next Wednesday, which ensures they remain sidelined for the time being.

Any reduction of suspensions is widely believed to be unlikely, but with the players who received eight-week bans not eligible until Sunday, April 9th, the final day of the league's divisional programme, the reasons for appealing are obvious. Both county boards already announced that they wouldn't be appealing the €10,000 fine handed down for their role in their ugly brawl which marred the Dublin-Tyrone game back on February 5th.

Caffrey has welcomed back the Kilmacud Crokes contingent of Paul Griffin, Darren Magee, Mark Vaughan and Liam Óg Ó hÉineachain, who have also been joined by club-mate Pat Burke. Ray Cosgrove was unavailable, however, as he is currently out of the country on honeymoon.

Into the team from the six-point defeat to Monaghan on February 12th comes defender Paul Griffin, midfielder Darren Magee, and forwards Conal Keaney, Jason Sherlock, Declan Lally, Shane Ryan.

Keaney missed the opening two rounds of the league as he recovered from an ankle injury, but proved that was behind him in a practice game last Saturday and is named at right half forward alongside Sherlock and Lally.

Ryan is given a somewhat unusual role at full forward, where he joins David O'Callaghan and Tomás Quinn. Sherlock, Lally and Ryan all appeared as substitutes in the loss to Monaghan, while the players to miss out are Niall O'Shea and Derek Murray, and the suspended Whelan, Cullen, Brogan and Bonner.

Dublin are one of several teams who have experienced a mixed start to the league. Only six of the 32 counties - Mayo, Fermanagh, Down, Derry, Louth and Westmeath - have taken full points from the opening two rounds, with the bigger surprise being that Tyrone, Cork, Armagh and Wexford are still looking for the first win.

In another Dublin GAA matter, the controversy of UCD's participation in the county hurling championship could soon be resolved. A plan was unveiled at the Leinster Council convention on Monday night by a new committee set up to review the club championships.

They are suggesting that UCD be given a wild card entry directly into the Leinster championship rather than as potential Dublin representatives.

The plan was outlined by Leinster Council chairman Liam O'Neill, who is also the chairman of the special task force committee set up to examine club eligibility.

They are proposing that UCD be allowed participate in the Leinster club championship along with the winners of Dublin county hurling final, but the plans also call for a general restructuring of the Leinster club championship.

The UCD issue crops up whenever they progress out of Dublin, and last year's victory yet again saw several other clubs campaign to have them excluded from the county championship. Further proposals of the committee would see the Leinster club hurling championship restricted to the Dublin, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Carlow champions, along with UCD.

It is proposed that the Louth and Longford champions would enter the Leinster junior club championship, while the Meath, Westmeath, Kildare and Wicklow champions would all enter the intermediate competition.

The proposals have already been submitted to the GAA's management committee, but will also need to be put to the Games Administration Committee before final approval.
