BASKETBALL/All-Ireland Schools' cup finals:Day two of the All Ireland Schools' Cup saw some of the country's best teams descend on the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght for some awesome battles.

There was a huge presence from the west as Calasanctius College, Oranmore were to take part in no fewer than three finals.

Some people feel that Friday the 13th is the unluckiest day in the year, but it was Wednesday the 31st that proved the undoing of Calasanctius as they lost in all three finals.

The Galway side faced St Malachy's of Belfast in the under-16 A final and found Paul Dick, who netted 19 points, in irresistible form.

Oranmore responded with Liam Foley notching up 16 points but the Saints held on for a nine-point victory, 50-41.

In the under-16 A girl's final Calasanctius faced Kerry team Presentation Castleisland.

Calasanctius lead the game for the majority of the encounter until Castleisland's Aisling Leonard scored in the dying moments to force the game into overtime.

Captain Miriam Leane sealed the victory for the Kerry side to break yet more Connacht hearts with a 39-37 victory to Castleisland.

Amid the disappointment of the under-16 girls, the under-19 boys took to the court to duel with St Fintan's of north Dublin.

It would prove to be yet another close affair but Eoin Chubb struck in the dying moments to gift Fintan's the cup by the slenderest of margins, 62-61.

Jermoe Westbrooks, who presided over the St Fintan's victory, was to have a most satisfactory afternoon as in the final game his Holy Faith, Clontarf side saw off Presentation Listowel in the under-19 final.

Both Sarah and Becky Woods were in sublime form for Holy Faith netting 21 and 19 points respectively in a 74-54 victory.

Westbrooks will have also been pleased by the performance of his daughter, Leah, who netted 12 points and captained the side to cup glory.
