A RUNAWAY winner at Galway last week, Calisar made light of his 5lb penalty when beating All The One by one and a half lengths in the O'Gara Royal Hotel Handicap at Roscommon last night.
Raised 12lbs for his festival success, Calisar looks set for another hefty hike in the ratings and goes to Gowran Park on Saturday in a bid to follow up.
Champion jockey, Johnny Murtagh, completed a short-priced double when winning the Fuerty Maiden on the John Oxx-trained Grief. Second on each of his last two runs, Grief had to battle to heat Soviet Dreamer in a tight finish.
Although she enjoyed a clear lead rounding the bottom bend and into the straight, Dancing Hours only held on to win the Abbey Maiden by a head.
Machalini was only a moderate third turning for home, but she stayed on well and would have certainly got her head in front in a matter of strides.
Winning jockey Christy Roche gave up his only remaining ride as he returned to weigh in limping, having caught his leg on the starting stalls.
Eddie Ahern enjoyed his 14th winner of the season and had his claim reduced to 4lb when taking the Glebe Handicap on Gerry Dardis. A one-length winner from Snoozeandyoulose, Gerry Dardis is expected to turn out again at Fairy House this evening for another handicap.
