The winter league in Charlesland, which is run on a county basis, was won last week by Wexford, who beat Galway 2-1, with club captain Dave Bernie playing a major role in the lead-up to the final. Bernie, who has lined-out for his native Wexford over many years on the hurling fields, was beaten on the 19th when partnering Sean Keogh in the final. However, the other two fourballs won through.
Simon Murphy and Colin Watchorn took the final three holes for a one-hole win and the final pairing of Jim Kiely and Pat Kinsella went ahead at the fourth and were never headed, eventually winning on the 17th.
