News round-up: An MRI scan on Kilkenny's DJ Carey, who injured a hamstring in training on Monday night, has shown that the injury was not as serious as at first feared and he is expected to line out in his eighth All-Ireland hurling final on Sunday week.
Meanwhile, Miriam O'Callaghan, president of the camogie association, yesterday announced that to celebrate the organisation's centenary an international competition will be held next month with the final taking place as a curtain-raiser to the first test of the International Rules series on Sunday, October 17th, at Croke Park.
O'Callaghan said: "I'd like to express my gratitude to SeáKelly and the GAA for their support in staging this first international camogie competition. This is a new departure but we have a history of involvement at international level and the game is played in several different counties."
Teams representing Britain, North America and Europe will arrive in Dublin on Wednesday, October 13th, to play a round-robin competition with an Ireland team drawn from the third-level colleges that contest the Purcell Cup.
Galway and Athlone IT player Therese Maher will captain the side, which will be coached by former Tipperary All Star Michael Cleary, who has also led his county to senior camogie All-Irelands on three consecutive years, beginning in 1999. He will be joined by Camillus King, Anne Dolan, Rita Broderick and Michelle Davis as team selectors.
Connacht champions Mayo have made one change from the team that won the provincial final for Sunday's All-Ireland under-21 semi-final against Kildare.
Barry Moran, a minor from Castlebar, comes in at centrefield as an indirect replacement for Aidan Kilcoyne whose place in the half-forward line is taken by Paul Doherty, who started in the middle against Roscommon in the Connacht final.
Included are three players who came on in the senior semi-final matches against Fermanagh, Dermot Geraghty, Damien Munnelly and Andy Moran.
Kildare won't announce a side until this morning.
