The gremlins certainly surfaced in the Press Association's (PA) picture story sent out to the national media during the week with regard to Bill McLaren's celebration dinner at the Dorchester Hotel in England.
McLaren, who is to retire as the BBC's voice of rugby, had picked his best ever XV and the players attended the dinner in the broadcaster's honour. The caption managed to include several exclusives, not least that Mike Gibson, Ireland's most capped player ever, was an England international.
Apart from several misspellings, the team picture also mentioned someone called Fegus Slatery, obviously a close relation of Fergus Slattery. We're not sure what legendary All Black Colin "Pinetree" Meads would make of the fact that, according to the caption, he played for Ireland, not withstanding that it referred to him as Colin Meade.
Here in all its glory is the caption as it appeared on the wire service. "front row: Rob Andrew (ENG), Graham Price (WAL), Sean Fitzpatrick (NZ), Bill McLaren, Mike Gibson (ENG) Gareth Exdwards (WAL) and Andy Irvine (SCO). Back row L-R: Wayne Shelford (NZ), Barry John (WAL), Mervyn Davies (WAL), ZIn Zan Brooke (NZ), Colin Meade (IRE), Fran Cotton (ENG), Fegus Slatery (IRE), Gerald Davies (WAL) and JPR Williams (WAL) at the Lloyds TSB presented celebration dinner at the Dorchester Hotel in London tonight (Tuesday).
