THE scoreboard doesn't lie, but it can be somewhat misleading. For what on paper looks a one sided affair proved anything but, as gallant Castleknock gave way to Blackrock in this Leinster Schools Junior Cup second round tie at Donnybrook yesterday.
With Niall Fanning and Brian Dunleavy, in particular, monopolising the lineout, Castleknock won a feast of possession. But their almost exclusively 10 man game restricted their options and made it easier for a disciplined Blackrock defence to keep them at bay.
On the other hand, Blackrock, starved of the ball, managed to run in three superb tries. For what they lacked up front, they more than compensated for with an exciting three quarter line.
All three tries came from admirable counter attacks and were scored by John Sullivan, Garry Brown and Alex Cahill. Alan Dalton landed a penalty and one conversion.
