NFL DIVISION THREE Cavan 0-13 Waterford 1-8:CAVAN GAINED their first win of the campaign after a substandard contest at Kingspan Breffni Park yesterday.
In a forgettable first half, the Déise played catch-up for all but the opening minute when Brian Wall’s free gave them the lead. After Mark McKeever levelled, it took a timely tackle from Gearóid McKiernan to deny Waterford’s Brian Phelan an almost certain goal in the 21st minute. Cavan flattered to deceive in pushing forward and were fortunate to lead at the break, 0-6 to 0-4.
Mark Ferncombe found the net to give his side a 1-4 to 0-6 lead two minutes into the second half. But Cavan then hit six points without reply to set up a lead they would never relinquish.
