DIT ace Cian Mackey was especially impressive in a Cavan attack that notched 16 points from play.

Cavan’s first-half edge owed much to the midfield display from Lorcan Mulvey and David Givney as Wexford relied on free-taker Shane Roche and trailed by 0-6 to 0-8 at half-time. Givney pointed to leave the hosts ahead by 0-11 to 0-7 after 45 minutes, but the lead was reduced to the minimum with 10 minutes left. However, after Brian Malone got a second yellow card on 66 minutes, Wexford’s hopes faded as Cavan rattled off five points in the last 10 minutes.
