WITH Terenure College struggling into the second round, CBC Monkstown may fancy their chances of a Leinster Schools' Senior Cup upset, when they meet them next Wednesday.
Their defeat of De La Salle, Churchtown, yesterday was not a ground-shaking performance, but CBC did have three abrasive forwards in Rory Keane, J P Finley and number eight Stephen Walsh, who carried the fight to De La Salle.
By the end, Finley had bagged two tries. But it was the omnipresent Walsh who steered and cajoled his side onwards with good work at the line-out and an all-action display in the loose. His try from the base of a five-metre scrum gave CBC the perfect start after just five minutes. Centre Ken Walsh converted and went on to kick his side into a 10-0 lead.
The second half passed largely without incident until CBC produced a try blitz in the last 13 minutes. This included nine minutes of injury time. In this spell, Finley crashed through for his two tries, orchestrated by the pack and scrum-half John Goodwin's quick thinking.
