Cecil is more optimistic now about Bosra Sham

HOT 1000 Guineas favourite Bosra Sham, is due back on the gallops today provided the bruised foot threatening her Classic build up continues to respond to treatment.

She will canter this morning as long as her near fore is none the worse for a long walk she took under Tony McGlone last evening.

Trainer Henry Cecil issued an optimistic bulletin about his star filly yesterday and remains hopeful that she will take her chance at Newmarket, although without the preparation he had planned. "There is much less soreness today," he said. "We got a shoe on.

"We have had to build up the foot to take the pressure off the bruises and we hope to canter her tomorrow.

"She has still got a chance but we have had to put everything back. We just need a little bit of luck over the next day or two."

Bosra Sham, who maintained her unbeaten record with victory in the Dubai Duty Free Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury yesterday week, is quoted at 2 to 5 for the 1000 Guineas by William Hill.

Meanwhile, Cecil has mapped out preparation races for Oaks hopes Magnificent Style and Solar Crystal.

Magnificent Style, who would need to be supplemented for the Classic, will run in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket then the Musidora at York, while Solar Crystal is being aimed at the Cheshire Oaks.

Double Trigger was reported yesterday to be "absolutely bouncing" in readiness for his return to action in Wednesday's Insulpak Sagaro Stakes at Ascot.

Mark Johnston reckons the five year old is in excellent heart after a break since he was a well beaten favourite for the Melbourne Cup last November.

"He is a difficult horse to give a break to as you can't just throw him out into a field but he is absolutely bouncing at the moment," the trainer said. "He seems to be as good as ever."

Double Trigger landed the Sagaro Stakes last year en route to clinching the stayers' triple crown and a similar programme is mapped out for him this term.

"If all goes to plan he will go for the Henry II Stakes and Ascot Gold Cup again but not the Yorkshire Cup," Johnston said.

Double Trigger will face a maximum of nine rivals on Wednesday and Johnston said: "He has a 7lb penalty this year but if he runs up to his form it would be a brave horse that takes him on."

The trainer's only concern is a forecast of good to soft going at Ascot.

"His two poor runs, in the Prix du Cadran and the Melbourne Cup, were on soft ground but there were a lot of other factors involved each time and it will be interesting to see him run on softish going in Britain for the first time since he was a two year old.

"But we were worried about the ground for Double Eclipse in France yesterday and he broke the track record easily so it can't have been too bad!"

Possible opponents in Wednesday's Group Three contest include Tote Ebor winner Sanmartino and Grey Shot, whom Ian Balding is aiming at this year's Melbourne Cup.
