HENRY CECIL may not yet have to face a Portman Square inquiry after being referred to the Jockey Club by the Epsom stewards over the declaration of Richard Hughes to ride Derby non runner Clever Cliche.
Clever Cliche was withdrawn from the race because of the firm ground but although Hughes was declared to ride the horse the jockey was in Ireland to ride at the Curragh.
Although Cecil was adamant Hughes was booked to ride the colt, Hughes agent Peter Harris claims he told the trainer's secretary as early as Thursday that the jockey would be in Ireland.
This morning, Jockey Club press office spokesman John Maxse said it was possible no inquiry would take place. "There is no definite inquiry planned," said Maxse.
"We are gathering all the facts and will make a decision on an inquiry when we have studied them."
