Dubliner Daragh O'Donohoe partnered Godolphin's Central Park to win the £140,000 Derby Italiano (12f) in Rome yesterday.

Central Park's win enabled the Godolphin team to complete a long-distance Group One double after Almutawakel had taken the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly.

It was also a handsome double boost for the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas, as Almutawakel and Central Park had run seventh and ninth respectively to the Derby bound King Of Kings at Newmarket.

In a field reduced to 16 following two withdrawals, including that of Aidan O'Brien's Desert Fox, Central Park was always prominent and kept on well to beat Germany's Nadour Al Bahr by a length.

Godolphin also took third with Mutawwaj. Paul Cole's Mowbray was fourth as foreign horses cleaned up in the Italian Blue Riband.

Dermot Weld's Bold Raparee was unplaced while O'Brien's Desert Fox was withdrawn at the start as Walter Swinburn was unhappy with the way he was moving.

Luca Cumani's Stanott won the Listed Premio Nearco.
