ROY KEANE is refusing to lower his expectations for this season, despite Ipswich Town picking up only one point from their opening two Championship games.
Ipswich were held 0-0 at home to Leicester on Saturday, having lost 2-1 at Coventry last Sunday.
But asked whether his side’s disappointing start had forced him to readjust his promotion goal, Keane – who has said anything less will be a failure – said: “No way.”
He added: “I could give lots of excuses but we’re professionals and have got to do better. The positives are that we got a point and kept a clean sheet.
“The players hung in there when they weren’t quite at the races . . . so we’ll take the point and move on.”
Now he shifts attention to tomorrow’s clash with Crystal Palace, who yesterday were given an apology by referees’ chief Keith Hackett over the goal not awarded during their weekend clash with Bristol City.
Palace striker Freddie Sears looked to have given his side the lead after 34 minutes when he drilled a low shot into the corner of the net. But the ball bounced back into play after hitting the stanchion and official Rob Shoebridge inexplicably awarded a goal-kick with neither himself nor his two assistants spotting the ball had crossed the line.
Warnock claimed his side had been “cheated”.
Hackett spoke to Warnock yesterday morning and also said sorry to the Palace players and fans after acknowledging the officials should have spotted it was a goal.
