China Visit will race from stall 12 when he lines up for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs today. In the method used to allocate gate positions a draw was made to determine the order in which connections could choose their post positions.

Sheikh Mohammed chose stall 12 for the Godolphin colt, winner of the UAE Derby at Nad Al Sheba in March.

Stablemate Curule is drawn in stall 19 of the 20-runner field.

Favourite Fusaichi Pegasus was drawn in 16 by trainer Neil Drysdale.

"It will keep him out of trouble," said Drysdale. "He's a good gate horse. If there's going to be a long time for him to stand in the gate, why not take a spot where he'll have to stand less?"

A draw near the middle of the field appeared to be the preferred position with Captain Steve, the first to be drawn, placed in stall eight and War Chant, the second to be picked, set for stall nine.
