MUNSTER SCHOOLS' JUNIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL/Ardscoil Ris, Limerick 5 Christian Brothers 12:CBC GUARANTEED the final of the Munster Schools' Junior Cup will be in Cork when they held on to beat Ardscoil in the semi-final at Dooradoyle yesterday. They will meet Crescent in the final.
The Limerick side were unfortunate to have a try disallowed after only five minutes when an attempted clearance was blocked and it seemed Rob Whyte had won the race for the touchdown.
CBC suffered a blow when outhalf Seán Quill had to retire injured after 14 minutes. But his replacement, Thomas Quinlan, immediately made an impact when he linked with Jack Whooley to send Chris McAuliffe in for a try on 17 minutes. Scrumhalf Ryan Foley converted.
Four minutes before the interval the Ardscoil Rís forwards drove over the line and hooker Cathal Flanagan got the try.
Ardscoil Rís totally dominated the opening 18 minutes of the second half but were rocked by a second CBC try.
Foley kicked ahead, the ball bounced awkwardly for the defence and McAuliffe grabbed possession and raced in from distance.
CBC had a player sinbinned and Ronan McKenna kicked a penalty for the infringement, but, try as they might, Ardscoil could not manage another score.
Winger Whyte was bundled into touch two metres from the line in the last play.
