Clare 0-18 University of Limerick 1-8:IN THE preliminary round of the McGrath Cup at Doonbeg yesterday, home-side Clare deservedly advanced to the next round against Cork with a merited seven point win over University of Limerick. The Clare recorded only four wides. UL were always playing catch-up, trailing by 0-10 to 0-4 at half-time, and their Kerry ace Anthony Maher had to leave the field early with an injury.
UL pulled a goal back in the 57th minute through substitute Edmund Walsh, reducing the deficit to just four points (0-14 to 1-7). But a resolute Clare added four more before the end to cement their dominance. With five minutes remaining, UL were reduced to 14 when corner-forward James ODonoghue was sent off.
