Michael Clark snuck in a birdie between rainstorm stoppages yesterday evening to grab a one-stroke lead in the rain-suspended final round, scheduled to resume today at Silvis, Illinois.
Rain or threatening weather halted play three times before tournament officials finally decided to call it quits under rainy skies, when it was clear the event could not be completed yesterday.
Clark's birdie, during a 17-minute gap of play between the drops, put the American at 17-under-par, one stroke ahead of third-round leader Kirk Triplett and Steve Lowery, who completed an eight-under 63 to finish at 16-under 268.
Because more than half of the 73 players completed their final rounds, the tournament will be concluded today. Nine players are within three strokes of the lead and seven of them have at least eight holes remaining. Tim Herron and Bill Glasson are 13-under with eight to play.
