So, what have you against Joel Edwards? He's 104th on the 2000 USPGA Tour money leaders' list having won a not-too-bad $79,106 so far this season. Last weekend he tied for 36th at the Doral Ryder Open, winning 7,500 Golf Masters' pounds.

But, still, Edwards appears in just 31 of our 20,891 teams which, by our calculations, means only 0.15 per cent of you have any confidence in his abilities. Not too many more of you showed much faith in David Howell, Jay Williamson or Roger Winchester. Winchester won £18,500 in Dubai last weekend.

At the other end of the scale Darren Clarke was proving popular enough even before he triumphed over Tiger Woods a fortnight ago. After that hardly a team was registered without him. Clarke appears in 30 per cent of our line-ups with Michael Campbell (£1.9 million) and Robert Allenby (£1.0), both clearly regarded as bargains, the only other players to top the 4,000 mark. In previous years Woods' transfer value put most managers off hiring him but his form so far this year encouraged 3,680 of you to invest almost half your budget in him. Paul McGinley, Padraig Harrington and Keith Nolan, meanwhile, proved to be the next most popular Irishmen after Clarke.
