After the disappointment of losing out in the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year last weekend golfer Darren Clarke has emerged as the bookies favourite to win this year's RTE Sports Personality Award, which will be take place this Saturday.
Both Paddy Power and William Hill have cut the odds on Clarke who was a member of the victorious Ryder Cup team just weeks after his wife Heather succumbed to her battle with cancer.
The bookmakers have Clarke's Ryder Cup team-mate Padraig Harrington Ireland and Munster rugby player Paul O'Connell as second favourites.
The Munster rugby team that triumphed in the Heineken European Rugby Cup last May are favourites for the team award.
