Newmarket trainer Terry Clement yesterday escaped with a fine of £500 after admitting neglect of horses in his care. Clement was brought before the Jockey Club's disciplinary committee to answer allegations that the standard of individual stables in his yard in Newmarket's Hamilton Road, were below that expected of a licensed trainer.
The actual care of horses themselves was also called into question.
Clement, who was legally represented, admitted being in breach of Jockey Club Rule 51(i), which covers the trainer's responsibility to his horses. Following the hearing Clement said: "I had a fair hearing and that would be the only comment I've got. We put our case and they listened to us."
