Clongowes Wood 79 Wesley 0JUNIOR CUP holders Clongowes Wood College made an impressive start to the defence of their trophy with a 13-try haul against qualifiers Wesley College at the Ashbourne RFC grounds yesterday afternoon.
After number eight Peadar Timmins had opened the scoring on five minutes, the backs then took charge with Jack Kennedy, Niall Rhattigan, Ciarán O’Hanrahan, Jack McDermott, Conor McQuaid and Max McFarland all crossing the line.
The other points were supplied in the form of four conversions by Conor Mahony.
Up 43-0 at the interval, Clongowes ran their whole bench on the 34th minute.
However, there was no let-up in the pressure from the Kildare school with Jonathan Fitzpatrick, Mahony, McDermott (converted), Ian Tyrell and Brian Byrne (converted) all making the line before McDermott completed his hat-trick with a minute to go.
Mahony finished the game by sending over his seventh conversion of the afternoon to complete a miserable day for Wesley.
