Galway(oldest): Dunmore McHales - Founded in 1887, the club has won 15 senior county championship titles but last year lost in the final to Corofin who went on to win the All-Ireland. In fact, Dunmore McHales inaugurated the current club football championship in 1969 under the then secretary Bertie Coleman, who held the position for 28 years and is now club president. Michael Donnellan was part of the 1925 team that won the All-Ireland by default, while Jack Mahon was one of the heroes of the 1956 All-Ireland winning side. During the 1960s the two Donnellan brothers, John and Pat, were part of the Galway team that won three All-Irelands in a row with John and Thomas Keenan and Seamas Layden also helping to form the backbone of that side. That decade also saw the club collect five county titles. Gay Mitchell played on the Galway team that lost the championship to Dublin in 1974 and although the club has been through a leaner spell in recent years, Michael Donnellan renews the strong association with All-Ireland teams on Sunday.

Kildare (youngest): Confey - Founded just nine years ago, Confey stands as the second major club in Leixlip after St Mary's. Last May the new £1 million clubhouse and pitches were officially opened with a Kildare challenge match. The club now fields 28 teams covering football, hurling, camogie and women's football. Most of the honours have come at juvenile level, especially hurling with the under-14 winning a Feile title. The senior football side was promoted to division two last year although they were relegated this season. The long term development is working towards achieving senior county status in the next few years.
