DUBLIN SFC:INTERNATIONAL RULES boss Anthony Tohill will be sweating over the availability of Stephen Cluxton for the forthcoming series after the latter's club, Parnells, advanced to next Saturday's quarter-final against Ballymun Kickhams in Parnell Park
Parnells defeated St Sylvesters 1-18 to 2-9 in extra-time and attempts by one reporter to get a word out of Cluxton after yesterday’s game in Lawless Park drew a typically short response.
Cluxton had produced a full -length save to deny Louth forward Darren Clarke early in the second half after the teams had gone in level in the first half.
Sylvesters hit the front on 34 minutes when Westmeath’s David Glennon finished off a fine team move from just outside the square.
A point from Dublin panellist Micéal McCarthy made it a three-point game before Parnells drew level with Laois forward MJ Tierney twice scoring from frees
Sylvesters posted two scores from Nigel Dunne (Offaly) and John Murphy(Carlow) but Parnells bounced back with frees from Johnny Murtagh (Armagh) and Tierney to tie the game at 1-8 to 0-11 at full time. Parnells hit the crucial score six minutes into the first period of extra time when Niall Collins converted at the far post and from there on Brian Talty’s men were never troubled.
Kilmacud Crokes, meanwhile, lost the grip on their title when losing 0-8 to 0-7 to St Brigid’s at Parnell Park on Saturday. Crokes led by 0-4 to 0-2 at half-time with Brigid’s goalkeeper Shane Supple producing two excellent saves to deny Mark Vaughan and Barry O’Rorke. Scores from Ken Darcy, Paddy Andrews and Mick Cahill helped St Brigid’s over the line.
Bernard Brogan recorded a personal tally of 1-7 as St Oliver Plunkett’s Eoghan Ruadh romped past O’Tooles by 1-14 to 0-7 while insurance points from Tommy Brennan and Stephen O’Shaughnessy saw Lucan Sarsfields defeat Templeogue/Synge Street 0-14 to 1-9. Ballyboden St Enda’s defeated St Peregines 2-19 to 0-4 while St Vincents also advanced with a 4-11 to 0-11 win over UCD.
