Jimmy Clynch played a captain's part when he led the field home in the Esso-sponsored Links Pro-Am at Seapoint last Thursday. The captain of Laytown and Bettystown, who earlier this year underwent a heart by-pass operation, shot a five-under-par nett 67 to win by three shots from professional Jimmy Hegarty (Spawell) and Jody Gillooley of the K Club. Clynch took the net prize from Gillooley with Dermot Cregan (Stackstown) - the father-in-law of Padraig Harrington - third on 71.
Hegarty won the gross with 71 from Dundalk's Peter Rogers with Peter Lawrie (Liberty Asset Management) third on 73. Clynch also figured in the team event with former amateur internationals Jody Fanagan (Milltown) and Tony Heverin (Hermitage) to win with a 10 under par 62.
