RACING: Punters in Britain will have to survive on a New Year's diet of all-weather meetings until at least Friday as the cold spell continues to play havoc with the jump racing programme.

Lingfield are the only track to race today while Southwell's meeting is the sole surviving track tomorrow.

Catterick abandoned today's meeting as the course failed to thaw out in time. Clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson was hoping conditions would improve after a 9 a.m. inspection but they were forced to abandon.

Wetherby's chief executive Tim Betteridge said: "We are just frozen solid and at the moment there's little chance of the weather improving so we have unfortunately had to abandon."

And it was much the same story at Wincanton where clerk of the course Brian Clifford said: "We are currently at minus one and we have not got above zero today.

"It was minus four last night and it's more like Siberia than Wincanton here at the moment!"

Kelso will inspect at 3.30 p.m. today to see if Friday's meeting can go ahead.

Huntingdon are still hopeful of getting the green light though and their going is currently described as soft, waterlogged in places but there are frozen parts of the track.

Friday's other meeting at Wolverhampton has been switched to Southwell.
