Derry City - 2 Dublin City - 3: Three goals during the final 10 minutes saw Dublin City stun Derry City at the Brandywell on Saturday night as Roddy Collins recorded his second victory as manager of the basement side. And the win was thoroughly deserved given Derry, who led 2-0 at the break, failed to show for the second half.
Collins was delighted afterwards, "I told the players at half time we had played like a team already relegated. I threw down the gauntlet and asked them, regardless of the result, to show a bit of respect to me as manager and to the fans who had travelled to the game.
"In fairness, they came out after the break and did just that. I've always said we were a decent team and it showed in the second half. We displayed great character and spirit."
Goals from Robbie Farrell in the 81st minute, Paul Crowley in the 82nd, and Peter Hynes in the 87th saw Dublin City add another three points to their tally and while they will still be favourites for an immediate return to the First Division, Shamrock Rovers will have taken notice.
Goals from Gary Beckett in the 24th minute and Mark Farren, four minutes before the break, presented the home side with a healthy interval lead. However, Derry failed to maintain their first-half momentum.
Derry manager Stephen Kenny said afterwards: "I'm looking at the big picture and this result does not count in the scheme of things. Yes, I'm disappointed at conceding three goals in the second half but had the game been of greater significance, it would have been easier to dig-in and hold out for a 2-0 victory.
