UEFA CUP LAST 16, SECOND LEG/Everton (0) Fiorentina (2):Everton's manager, David Moyes, has called for cool heads this evening, when his players attempt to claw back a two-goal deficit against Fiorentina to reach the Uefa Cup quarter-finals.
Everton hit back from that reverse with a 1-0 win at Sunderland on Sunday and Moyes has no doubts about the self-belief in a squad that has continued to challenge for fourth place in the Premier League.
The Scot is also well aware the Serie A side, who lost 1-0 at Siena on Sunday, will look to disrupt the flow of their play, and after being frustrated by the Belgian official Paul Allaert in Florence, he has asked for a strong performance from the Dutch referee Eric Braamhaar.
"We know that there will be lots of stoppages," Moyes said. "That's what happens when you play in Europe. But we know that our crowd can make a really big difference. I felt last week that the Fiorentina fans had an influence on the result, so if that's the way it goes we would hope that our supporters can do the same for us."
With Andrew Johnson set to start alongside Yakubu Ayegbeni, Moyes is confident his team can overturn the deficit against a team sitting fourth in their league.
"It's important not to concede and that's why we've talked about patience," Moyes said.
The only time Everton have reversed a first-leg deficit was against Rotherham in the 1993 League Cup - but Moyes believes his team can do so tonight.
"Many of the games we have played in Europe we have won late on and after 70 minutes last week it looked as if we had weathered the storm, even though we had not played well. I can't deny that Fiorentina deserved to win but the tie is not lost by any means."
