TENNIS: Top seed Ciarán Fitzgerald had an easy win in the first round at the National Indoors Championship at Riverview yesterday. The Greystones player beat Eamonn Morrissey of Larkspur 6-0, 6-0 to set up a second-round match with Conor McCoey of Carrickmines today.
Second seed John Paul McGahon of Dundalk also won his first round tie 6-0, 6-0 against Matthew McClurg and will now face clubmate Joseph Mullen for a place in the quarter-finals.
Colin O’Brien, the joint third seed playing out of Malahide also had a straightforward win and will now meet Liam Cassidy in the second round. The other third seed, John Morrissey defeated Pádraic Kilcoyne convincingly 6-2, 6-0.
