JOHN COOK matched the greatest back-to-back rounds in PGA Tour history with a final-round 63 in Indian Wells in California yesterday, rallying from a four-stroke deficit to win the Bob Hope Classic.

Cook's 15-foot birdie putt on the final green of the five-day, 90-hole marathon gave him a 33-under par 327 total and a one stroke triumph over fellow American Mark Calcavecchia, who led by four strokes earlier yesterday.

Cook followed his fourth-round 62 with a nine-under par 63 to match the PGA's best consecutive rounds. Taking the $1.5 million event made this the first event Cook has won twice. He won a play-off five years ago.

Sweden's Jesper Parnevik birdied the final hole for a 62, his best-ever round on the US PGA circuit, and finished at 28-under 332 to take third place, his best ever finish on the US tour.
