Republic of Ireland manager Mick Cooke has three major injury worries on the eve of tomorrow's World Cup qualifying match against Wales at the Carlisle Grounds in Bray, where victory would see the team go top of their group.

A back strain has prevented captain Yvonne Lyons from training for over a month while striker Lisa Curran (knee) and midfielder Angie McNally (back) are also receiving intensive treatment in the run-up to the game.

However, Cooke is confident that all three players will at least start the game against the team who are bottom of the group and who lost 3-0 to Ireland in Bangor last December.

Poland are the current group leaders, following their 1-0 win over Ireland at Tolka Park in November, and the return match between the teams in June could determine who goes in to a playoff, against another European group winner, for a place in the 1999 World Cup finals in the United States.

Third-placed Belarus still have an outside chance of topping the group but news that they intend travelling to Dublin, across Europe by bus, for the final fixture of the group in June, hardly enhances their prospects of making it to America.
