TEAM NEWS:LAR CORBETT will make his first competitive start of the season for Tipperary in next Sunday's Munster hurling final against Waterford at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The 2010 Hurler of the Year came on as a substitute against Cork in the semi-final victory at the same venue, supplying Noel McGrath with the pass for the crucial second-half goal, and had been playing for the A team during recent training matches.

Gearóid Ryan has been dropped to accommodate Corbett’s return for the same fixture where he famously registered 4-4 last year. Ryan was also the one to make way for Corbett against Cork, being replaced in the 33rd minute.

The 31-year-old only returned to the Tipperary panel a fortnight before the provincial quarter-final victory over Limerick on May 27th. Corbett shocked the GAA community in February by announcing his decision to retire from intercounty hurling.

Corner back Michael Cahill, right-half back Tom Stapleton and wing forward Pa Bourke have all been passed fit to start against Waterford.

Former captain Eoin Kelly remains on the bench, while midfielder James Woodlock has been ruled out after breaking a toe on club duty for Drom and Inch against Loughmore-Castleiney. Shane McGrath and Brendan Maher will start in the centre.

Meanwhile, Roscommon football manager Des Newton has received a fitness boost ahead of the All-Ireland qualifier against Tyrone on Saturday.

Donie Shine and Cathal Cregg, both of whom picked up injuries in the county’s shock 1-11 to 1-9 win over Armagh in the last round, have recovered and will start against Mickey Harte’s men at Dr Hyde Park.

However, Cathal Dineen is struggling with an ankle injury and is not expected to feature.

Elsewhere, Sligo footballer Adrian Marren and Tipperary hurler Patrick Maher have been named as GPA/GAA players of the month for June.

Marren scored 2-6 in Sligo’s surprise 2-14 to 0-15 defeat of Galway that put them into Sunday’s Connacht final against Mayo.

Maher shone in Tipperary’s defeat of Cork to put the defending champions into Sunday’s clash with Waterford.
