Men's Hockey Weekend round-up: Corinthians showed their mettle over the weekend. Facing in form side YMCA in Whitechurch Park, the home team saw off a significant challenge from the visitors, conceded a considerable amount of ground then rallied to win the match 3-2 and take top position in the Leinster Senior League.
YMCA arrived at the St Columba's school venue with serious intentions of continuing their bright start to the season, one that appeared to be proceeding smoothly when striker Michael Fry hit his side to a 2-0 advantage in the first half.
However, the home side turned the match sharply around in the second period and surged back into the match, Colin Stewart, Miles Warren and Adrian Missen claiming a goal each to send YMCA packing with nothing to show at all.
At Grange Road, Three Rock Rovers bounced back into the form many had expected them to begin the season with.
Visitors Glenanne arrived with both Devon Keogh and David Shaw missing and duly went down by two goals.
The Tallaght side had beaten Rovers twice last season and after the slow start to the year, believed they had a slim chance of causing an upset.
Although Rovers are still without two of their attackers, David Fleming and Gary Ringwood, they managed to knock in two goals and keep hopes of retaining their title alive. Michael Yeats and Charlie Carroll scored one each in the 2-0 win.
At the top of the table both Pembroke and Aer Lingus also kept their names in the contenders grouping.
Aer Lingus, with three wins from four games so far, hit two goals against UCD to keep their run going at an encouraging pace.
Meanwhile Pembroke were less sparing with their neighbours from Railway Union. Justin Sherriff was again on the score sheet and he now has an enviable record of three goals from two games, while Colm Brady and Simon Kershaw also contributed to what was very much a one-sided game.
Monkstown and Trinity came away from St Andrews sharing the points, the home side's Gareth Watkins striking twice for his side. The draw gives Monkstown a slight edge on the three bottom placed sides, Railway, UCD and Trinity.
