Corinthians suffer most

Frost may make it difficult to get the Cable & Wireless-sponsored Leinster Senior Cup quarter-finals up and humming tomorrow. It is an irony that Corinthians, with the majority of their players comimg from more temperate climes, have been most exposed to the rawness of the past week, notably in suffering a 3-1 defeat at YMCA on Tuesday night which dented their league aspirations.

They were also frustrated by last Saturday's match against Trinity being abandoned after 10 minutes because of icy conditions at Whitechurch Park, so if this venue is sufficiently mellow tomorrow, they will be inclined to cut loose against their modest second-division cup opponents, St Brendan's/Phoenix Park.

Conversely, Naas - the other survivors from the lower division as a result of eliminating YMCA at Caragh Road - may well be capable of sending Three Rock Rovers packing as well.

Few of the young Rovers side have ever experienced a grit surface and sturdy competitors such as Alan Bothwell, Niall Denham and Stephen Bredin will need to be particularly forceful if the home team are to be subdued. Naas have had a highly successful run since Peter Young settled in as the pivotal figure, eagerly supported by the Weir and Lowry brothers.

The holders, Pembroke Wanderers, will feel comfortable enough to shake off Avoca's challenge at Serpentine Avenue. Avoca, though, having done Pembroke a favour in the league by taking two points from Glenanne last weekend, will offer vigorous resistance. Aer Lingus will be in danger of suffering a Glenanne backlash at Tallaght.
