After two draws and two losses against the same opposition in FAI Cup and league action, Cork finally managed to get the formula right to record their first win of the season over Longford Town.
Such was Cork's dominance that they could and perhaps should have ended the game with a bag full of goals but according to captain Derek Coughlan a 1-0 win is good enough.
"We now have that fighting quality back in the side and that is important. We have a passion that was lacking for a number of weeks if not months and are back to what we do best, playing football and winning."
Cork's goal came from a Kelvin Flanagan penalty after five minutes after James Mulligan had been taken down by Alan Murphy.
Cork should have at least doubled their return over the course of the game with Mulligan, Noel Hartigan, Anthony Buckley and Ollie Cahill all going close but the Longford goal led a charmed life.
