Cork 1-15 Waterford 1-8: In a match which never really generated a great deal of excitement for the sizeable crowd, Cork ran out deserving winners at Fraher Field, Dungarvan last evening.

Waterford led 0-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes with two pointed frees by Craig Maloney, one from midfielder Paul Murray and one from play by corner forward Dean Twomey. Cork's two came from Patrick Horgan and Colm O'Neill but Waterford were not to score for the remainder of the half while Cork put over six more points, three from Patrick Horgan and one each from Dan O'Callaghan, Robert White and Donnagh Stack to lead 0-8 to 0-4 at the interval.

Waterford began the second half with a point from a Maloney free but Cork replied with three points in quick succession, one from a free by Patrick Horgan and one each from Lee Desmond and Thomas Murray.

After 35 minutes Waterford's goalkeeper Adrian Power failed to pick up a loose ball in the goalmouth and O'Neill pounced to fire home Cork's goal. However, a minute later a long-range free by Waterford's Paul Murray found its way to the Cork net to make it 1-11 to 1-6. Cork added four more insurance points to seal victory.
