Cork 1- 19 Cavan 0-4 TOMMY CARR tendered his resignation in the wake of Cavan's mauling by Cork on Saturday in front of 3,172 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.  Cavan trailed at half-time by 0-9 to 0-1, their point coming from substitute Cian Mackey. Cork had added three points when Cavan's Garret Smith was shown a second yellow card for a challenge on Fintan Goold in the 42nd minute.

Cork had stretched their lead to 0-15 to 0-2 by the time Pa Kelly and substitute Noel O’Leary combined to send Pearse O’Neill through for a goal after 52 minutes. A couple of Ronan Flanagan points made little difference as Cork saw out the game with four unanswered points.

The home side set out their stall at the start, Ciarán Sheehan pointing after 20 seconds and the 19-year-old formed a promising partnership with corner men Daniel Goulding and Colm O’Neill.

Cork’s injury list is lengthening, Aidan Walsh and Alan O’Connor joining Paul Kerrigan and Donncha O’Connor. Colm O’Neill limped off near the end.
