All-Ireland MFC Quarter-finals/Cork 2-11 Galway 2-10: A late point by Cork corner forward Daniel Goulding was all that separated the sides in their quarter-final at Cusack Park, Ennis, on Saturday.
Galway trailed for all of the first half and much of the second, before coming back in the last quarter to equalise, but then saw their championship aspirations evaporate to a 14-man Cork in injury time.
Cork full back Stephen O'Donoghue was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card ten minutes from time.
Cork got off the mark after 40 seconds when top scorer Colin Weste found the net after a poor clearance by a Galway defender. The Ballincollig man scored again in the 12th minute following a hand-pass from Paul Kerrigan to put his side 2-2 to 0-3 ahead.
The Galway backs found it difficult in the opening half to contain a potent Cork attack and as the half-time whistle sounded, they trailed 0-6 to 2-6.
Following the restart, Cork added two points through Brian Cotter and a John Hayes free. Galway had two Seán Armstrong points before Goulding teamed up with Cotter to put Cork 2-9 to 0-8 ahead.
But a resilient Galway then hit a purple patch and goals from Shane Hogan and Armstrong on either side of an Aongus Callanan point levelled matters by the 49th minute.
Weste and Hogan exchanged pointed frees before Goulding popped up a minute into injury time to put over the winning score.
