InterToto Cup/Cork City - 3 Malmo - 1: Cork City turned on the style when accounting for Malmo FF in their InterToto Cup first-leg clash at Turner's Cross on Saturday night.
Cork had a dream start when, after only 10 minutes, they found the net through under-21 international John O'Flynn.
Colin O'Brien lifted a seemingly nothing ball over the top of the Malmo defence, where left back Daniel Majstorovic dithered before passing back to his goalkeeper. As Joel Ringstrom came to gather, O'Flynn pounced, took the ball away from the goalkeeper's fingers and steered it in with his left leg.
Cork got their second just past the half-hour mark. George O'Callaghan floated a free kick into the penalty area, where City captain Dan Murray rose to powerfully head home.
On the hour mark an O'Callaghan corner kick was met by the incoming Murray, who headed the ball past a bevy of defenders and into the net.
Malmo grabbed what could be a crucial away goal six minutes from time when Josef Elanga rose unchallenged to meet a cross and head home.
Cork must now turn their attentions to the domestic league and the visit of Bohemians to Turner's Cross tomorrow night before preparing for next Sunday's return tie in Sweden.
