LEAGUE CUP/CORK CITY - 0 LIMERICK FC - 1:Limerick secured victory in the dying minutes of what was a drab and lifeless Eircom League Cupquarter-final tie at Turner's Cross, yesterday, against a Cork City side reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Alan Bennett on 75 minutes.

The first half hour of this encounter offered nothing constructive as both sides struggled to string a few passes together and it was only in the final 15 minutes that any positives were evident on the pitch.

With the game seemingly heading for extra-time, Limerick struck in the 87th minute when a Ciaran Foley cross reached Derek McCarthy, who turned inside Stephen Napier before rifling home from close range.

The game had threatened to boil over on 75 minutes when Cork midfielder Alan Bennett was sent-off for a second yellow card, issued for dissent to referee Jimmy O'Neill.
