Half Backs Colin Breen and Derek Byrne provided the vital scores to push Good Counsel into the Leinster Schools' Section A Senior Cup semi-final at Palmerston.
Outhalf Byrne contributed a priceless 19 points from a clever individual try, four penalties and a conversion and, generally, kept a dangerous St Patrick's attack pinned in their own territory after the break.
It was all square, 14-14, at the break. Breen's sniping, converted try in the 37th minute and Byrne's 42nd-minute penalty gave Counsel the lead.
The losers had a fine number 10 in Denis Hurley, who surged through for two great tries in the 17th and 59th minutes. Both were converted by centre Cian Murphy.
