Famous five
Crossmaglen Rangers - 0-14, Pearse Og - 1-6
Crossmaglen Rangers powered to their fifth county senior football championship title on the trot when they edged out a gallant Pearse Og side in yesterday's decider at Crossmaglen.
And the winners certainly had reason to be grateful for the accuracy of Oisin McConville from the placed ball. The shooting star grabbed 10 points, eight of them from frees. Og had been in the lead either. They swept into a 05 to 0-2 advantage during a first half purple patch and only a sustained burst by Rangers just prior to the break helped to ease them into a 0-6 to 0-5 interval lead.
They continued to wobble unsteadily, particularly after Clarke found the net, but in the last quarter four unanswered points from McConville and another from Colm O'Neill, an effective third midfielder, helped to put Rangers in the clear.
It was a close call, but Crossmaglen have now carved themselves a special place in the history books.
