Curran's brace

Wicklow withstood a promising second-half performance to win the Kehoe Cup yesterday at Newbridge

Wicklow withstood a promising second-half performance to win the Kehoe Cup yesterday at Newbridge. They got off to the best possible start with Danny Curran finding the net with the first score of the game and, although Kildare narrowed the gap, the winners led 1-6 to 07 at half-time.

Midfielder Jonathan O'Neill slotted over two placed-balls at the start of the second half to give Wicklow a comfortable lead.

However, Kildare continued to improve and they drew level after 11 minutes when Adrian McAndrew scored a goal. Wicklow edged ahead again, though Kildare managed to twice get back on level terms.

Danny Curran's second goal gave the winners some breathing space.
