CAMOGIE/Cork v Galway:VERONICA CURTIN may be the most experienced player on the field tomorrow, but that did not stop her having to undergo an educational process this year. It wasn't so much a case of learning new tricks but rather reacquainting herself with old ones.

The Portumna star made her debut for Galway as a 15-year-old when introduced as a substitute during the 1995 All-Ireland semi-final. In 1996 she was at full forward when the westerners won their first title. Galway have failed to double their tally and yet, apart from missing one campaign, Curtin has been an ever-present.

Usually it was in the corner or the half-forward division. This year was her first time back at full forward since 1996. “It took time in the league to settle into it” she said. “I was a bit rusty but now it’s happening for me.”

Curtin was on fire against Cork in the drawn semi-final at Nowlan Park last week, scoring 2-2. The two goals helped Galway turn a second-half deficit into a lead but the Rebels hit back to draw.

Galway concerns focus on ankle injuries to Tara Rutledge and Caroline Murray, and Breda Hanney’s dead leg.

In the curtain-raiser at Thurles tomorrow is another replay – the Minor A All-Ireland final between Galway and Clare (1.30pm).
