The Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifying rivals Cyprus recorded their biggest-ever international victory with a 5-0 home win over Andorra yesterday.

The result means Cyprus move up to second place in the Group Two standings behind Portugal after three games. However, both of Cyprus' wins have been over Andorra, who are nailed to the bottom of the group, having lost all four of their matches.

Ireland will travel to Cyprus in March to play the first of the two group games between the sides.

Close-range shots from Yiannakis Okkas in the 10th and 18th minutes caught the Andorran defence flat-footed and put the home side in command in front of 6,000 fans. Marios Agathocleous followed up with a third goal in the 43rd minute with Marios Christodoulou making it 4-0 after 73 minutes. Milenko Spoljaric completed the rout with a 90th-minute penalty.
