Ireland beat Switzerland 88-80 in their opening game of the men's European basketball championship preliminary round in Helsinki yesterday, but were then pipped 57-56 by Cyprus.

Ireland have still to play Norway, Luxembourg, Austria and Finland in their group, with two nations going through to the next round.
