Colin Dalgleish has been reappointed captain of the Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team for the 2009 encounter at Merion in Pennsylvania.
The R&A confirmed the news today and the 46-year-old will also captain the B&I St Andrews Trophy team next year after they defeated Continental Europe 15-9 at Marianske Lazne in the Czech Republic in 2006.
Dalgleish's side narrowly lost 12.5-11.5 to the Americans
in an enthralling Walker Cup match at Royal County Down
earlier this month.
"We are delighted that Colin has agreed to continue in the
role of captain for another two years," said Tony Disley, R&A
chairman of selectors. "Colin's experience and undoubted leadership
skills make him the ideal candidate to continue the good work he
has done over the last two years."
The Helensburgh member also played in the 1981 Walker Cup at Cypress Point after winning the Scottish Amateur Championship at Western Gailes the same year. He represented Scotland from 1981-89 before captaining his country from 1993-96. They won the European Amateur Team Championships in Antwerp in 1995.
"I am delighted that The R&A has extended my captaincy of the Britain & Ireland team for a further two years," said Dalgleish. "I look forward to both next year's St Andrews Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Kingsbarns, and in particular to the Walker Cup at Merion in 2009, where I hope to play my part in returning the trophy to St Andrews, after so narrowly missing out at Royal County Down."
